„A Mark VI egy modern, gyors és jól manőverező hajó, amelyet a part menti határok ellenőrzésére terveztek” – írta tweetjében a miniszter. Elmondása szerint első körben hat hajót szállítanak Ukrajnába a megállapodások értelmében, mely az Egyesült Államokkal a biztonság terén alkalmazott együttműködés bizonyítéka. Ukrajna a megállapodás értelmében további tíz hajóra számíthat. Kuleba kiemelte, hogy az Egyesült Államok ezen döntése növeli az ukrán haditengerészet képességeit, mely így hatékonyabban tud ellenállni a Fekete- és Azovi-tenger jelenlegi és potenciális veszélyeinek. „Ez a támogatás a biztonsági és védelmi szektor, illetve a védelmi ipar reformjával együtt segít Ukrajnának modern, operatív módon csatlakozni a NATO-kompatibilis fegyveres erők fejlesztésébe, amelyek hatékonyan tudnak ellenállni az orosz agressziónak” – fogalmazott a külügyminiszter.



Korábban az év során Olekszij Nejizspapa, a haditengerészet parancsnoka elmondta, hogy 2020-ban az ukrán flotta 16 darab Mark II típusú hajóval is ki lesz egészítve, melyek jelentős részét az Azovi-tengerre küldik.
